Dr.
Seyed Akhtar Shahmehdi recently earned his MD from St. Matthew's
University School of Medicine and successfully completed all his
licensing exams. Clinical research has been a central aspect of Dr.
Shahmehdi's medical education. As an undergraduate he participated
in a research project conducted by the College of Staten Island/
Institute of Basic Research, Center for Developmental Nueroscience,
which studied the conformational changes in the lipid bilayer
/plasma membrane of apoptotic neuronal HN2-5 cell lines.
In
medical school, Dr. Shahmehdi was active in community service
projects in rural areas of West Virginia, which ensured that under
serviced populations had access to basic health care services and
skilled medical practitioners. Through the Rural Health Education
Program, Dr. Shahmehdi was responsible for promoting community
health awareness through regular health fairs and other community
events, which offered health care services and counseling for both
adults and children.
In
addition, he collected data concerning overweight/obese children
with Acanthosis nigricans associated with high cholesterol and was a
member of a research group involved in conducting a sleep study.
Currently, Dr. Shahmehdi is completing an MA in Health Care
Administration at St. Joesph's College in Maine. In his free time,
Dr. Shahmehdi enjoys playing soccer for the Ariana Soccer Team in
the New York/New Jersey Golden League.
Currently,
Dr. Shahmehdi has joined R Endocrinology/R Research with Dr. Rizvi
as a rotating intern and clinical research coordinator. He looks
forward to participating in the clinical research trials conducted
by R Research.
